The Design Process

Getting Started

From the time you book your dates to work with me (I require a signed contract and deposit to reserve your space) until our project start date, I'll going to get you started with a series of homework assignments. These are all about brand exploration - your story, your passion, and the how and why behind what you do. During this step we will also begin to pull some gathered imagery for inspiration. This process can take anywhere from a few weeks to a month depending how far in advance you book our services, and is due the date we begin work.

Brand Exploration

The Design Process

The first two weeks of the project will focus on creative direction. We'll finish up any remaining homework assignments and begin to review your answers. We will start work on your Brand Strategy, a comprehensive PDF outlining your audience, competition, values, and how we'll use design to keep your brand components specifically identifiable to you. A Brand Strategy helps us keep our end goal in mind and keeps us on the right path to get there.

Creative Direction

Weeks 1-2

The Design Process

This is where it starts to get fun! We'll look at color and typography samples, and I'll begin to draft some of your visuals - your logo and two other brand marks (more about this here) as well as any illustrations, patterns, or imagery we decide to use. These brand components will also be added to your Brand Strategy, something will go a long way in helping us (and you) make future decisions about the visual aspects of your brand. You'll also receive a ten page Brand Guidelines PDF with your logo files.

The Design Process

Once your brand staples are complete, we'll start to work on your website! We'll get your brand rocking with a Showit website and matching Wordpress blog (read more about how Showit and Wordpress work together here). We make revisions as we go, we don't save them for the end, so this is the part of the project that requires the most back and forth email communication. All of our sites are responsive and mobile friendly, and we'll take care of basic SEO optimization for you!

The Design Process

Time to break out the bubbly, we're almost done! We'll take this last week to refine your website, voice, and all aspects of your brand before we make it live to the public. I'll provide you with 5-10 images to promote the launch on social media, and we'll come up with a plan of action (hello giveaways!) to get the word to your audience out in the best way possible. Cheers!
